Friends of Carncot

One highlight of the School’s development was the establishment of the Friends of Carncot in August 1998.

Although there had not been a formal association up to that point, the past pupils, either individually or collectively, have always taken a keen interest in the School and its progress. Over the years they have been regular visitors at functions and events of the School.

Upon inception, the Friends of Carncot began to compile a database with the names of old girls and boys who have attended Carncot School.

The Friends of Carncot initially set out to write a history of Carncot School, which is now complete. In the process they discovered that the School should not have celebrated its centenary in 1981 as it did, as the School was found to have originated in 1903. A great deal of effort was put into raising funds to support the writing of Carncot, the first hundred years which was published in July 2006. The launch of this book presented an occasion where past pupils had the opportunity to renew friendships and their acquaintance with the School.

The Friends of Carncot give generously each year to the School and support the needs of both staff and students. A major goal of the committee has been to sort and catalogue photos and other items in the school archives to ensure these records are not lost for future generations. The Friends of Carncot issues an annual newsletter in the first half of each year, which affords an opportunity for past pupils to keep informed of present Carncot events, to keep up with past pupils' and friends' activities and achievements. It also allows those who were involved with the School in the past to be part of the present school family.
