Barnardos FUNdraising 2011

Apart from being in the classroom, what could be more fun than throwing wet sponges at your teachers or trying to win cakes for a good cause. Carncot senior students organised a fabulous few hours of fun activities and food as part of their annual activity to raise money for Barnardo’s children. Carncot students and teachers have supported Barnados for 95 years through activities to raise funds for an organisation which looks after less fortunate families.
All the activities from design and creation, as well as the organisation for the event, were the responsibility of the senior students.
Student committee chairperson, Bailey Ferguson, who co-ordinated the event, said that all Year 8 girls worked together over 2½ weeks to provide the entertainment, and they love supporting Barnardo’s children.
A sausage sizzle, guess the jelly beans in the jar, guess the spot, treasure hunt, lucky dip, colouring competition, cake walk (supported by Year 7) and, most popular of all, the huge chocolate raffle and ‘wet sponge the teachers’ kept the money rolling in over the lunch hour.
Deanna Kelland, in charge of sponsorship, said the girls were very grateful to have the support of the Warehouse, MacDonald’s and Downtown Cinemas.
Mrs Russell, said that the girls had integrated literacy, numeracy and fun into this valuable learning experience.
Barnardo’s representatives will be at assembly on Monday to accept a cheque for $1274.00.
