“Very early on, Carncot picked up areas of potential weakness and provided extra assistance and focus in these areas.  The confidence this gave our daughter has been invaluable.”

Steps Through Time

On the 5 October, Year 7 and 8 put on a dance show for our parents called, “Steps through Time”.  The evening demonstrated our learning about how dance has evolved through time. Some of the dances included in the presentation were, a contemporary dance, ballet, Gay Gordon, rock and roll, disco, Charleston, tap, Irish dancing and hip hop, all of which formed part of our Performing Arts curriculum.  Some Year 8 girls had leadership roles in choreographing a dance and teaching it to a small group.

The Year 8 students also researched famous dancers and dance companies, and presented their information on posters, which were displayed in the hall on the night.  We also integrated our Visual Language by designing and creating invitations and a programme for the evening.

We had so much fun during our Dance Unit and enjoyed the challenge of choreographing our own dances in the style of the particular dance that we were given.  The show was compered by Bailey Ferguson, who acted as a Radio New Zealand announcer.  The presentation was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience and all the performers.

Arts and Crafts Week

Wednesday dawned with a hive of activity as teachers, parents and grandparents set up 11 different activities ranging from mosaic tiles to floral art and many more.

As Mozart played, students worked enthusiastically to complete each activity with examples worthy of a show and tell later in the day.  Students completed two activities over Wednesday and Thursday with stunning results.

Global Learners

A sea of colours and flailing flags set the atmopshere buzzing in the hall on Monday afternoon in our Languages Assembly.
The first presentation came from the Junior Team who eagerly showed us their tititorea.  With smiles etched on their faces, they banged their sticks and sang along to the music.
The Middle Team told us a bit about themselves in Spanish before topping off their act with a song.  Year 7's colourful flags and great knoweldge of the French Language made an entertaining presentation.
Year 8's topical and entertaining presentation of their japanese learning cleverly incorporated the Rugby World Cup.  Their idea of a Japan vs All Blacks rugby game brought both laughter and learning.
The Assembly was a fantastic celebration of our language learning.
